XII International Conference ‘Contemporary Global Trends in University Library Development’
On 25-26 April 2024, Maia Dzhailkanova, Head of the Scientific Library of the International Higher School of Medicine, took part in the XII International Conference ‘Modern World Trends in the Development of University Libraries’. The conference was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University. The theme for 2024 was ‘The Modern Library: The Key to Quality Information and Library Services at Universities,’ and the conference was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
As Executive Director of the Electronic Libraries Association, Maya Dzhailkanova delivered a presentation at the plenary session entitled ‘The Electronic Libraries Association of Kyrgyzstan: Innovative Areas of Activity and Results,’ for which she received a letter of appreciation and a certificate of participation in the conference.
Maia Dzhailkanova established personal contacts with representatives of A. Rytov, regional representative of EBSCO, and E. D. Ushanov, director of the Marketing and Sales Department of IVIS, with whom an agreement was reached on the organisation of presentations of EBSCO and IVIS electronic resources in the field of medicine for students and teaching staff of the IHSM.

The conference was organised by the Association of University Libraries of the Republic of Kazakhstan, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Suleyman Demirel University.
The conference was attended by more than 80 heads and leading specialists of university libraries, researchers in the field of librarianship, teachers of information and library disciplines, as well as producers and suppliers of information resources and services for libraries from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
The first day of the conference was held at the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University.
Welcoming speeches were given by Gulmira Amirkhanovna Kanai, Chair of the Board - Rector of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University (Kazakhstan); Gulzat Isbasarovna Kubenova, Chair of the Committee on Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan); Lin Li So, Chair of the IFLA Regional Committee for Asia and Oceania; Director of the Partnership Division of the National Library Council, Singapore (Singapore).
During the first day of the conference, presentations were given on the following topics: trends in the development of modern university libraries, the activities of library associations and consortia, and university library information resources: experience and prospects for their formation and promotion in the academic environment, as well as current issues in the professional education of librarians and professional development.
At the end of the first day of the conference, a gala dinner was held for participants to mark the 80th anniversary of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University.
The second day of the conference was held at Suleyman Demirel University, where presentations were given on the following topics: promising areas of development for university libraries and their provision, and modern software, technical and spatial solutions for ensuring the quality of services offered by university libraries.
An introductory tour of the library of Suleyman Demirel University was organised for the conference participants.
At the end of the conference, all participants received certificates.
