Innovations for the Next Generation of Libraries and Readers
On 26 November 2024, Maya Dzhailkanova, Head of the Scientific Library of the International Higher School of Medicine, moderated the practice-oriented seminar ‘Access Points’ as part of the two-day Russian-Kyrgyz Scientific and Library Forum ‘Innovations for the Next Generation of Libraries and Readers,’ which was held at the Scientific Library of the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy in Bishkek.
The aim of the event was to expand new forms of cooperation between representatives of the professional library community of Kyrgyzstan and Russia, to exchange experience in organizing library access to educational, scientific and technical information resources necessary for new generations of scientists, engineering and invention.
The event was organised by the Association of Electronic Libraries, the EBIT Association, the Russian State Public Scientific and Technical Library and AVD-System LLC.
About 50 library managers and specialists, as well as university teachers from Kyrgyzstan, took part in the practical seminar both offline and online.
During the seminar, presentations were given by A.S. Karaush, Director General of the Russian State Public Scientific and Technical Library, Vice-President of the National Association of Library and Information Science; A.N. Akylbekova, Head of the Electronic Resources Sector of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy Library; M.V. Goncharova, leading researcher, head of the prospective research and analytical forecasting group at the Russian State Public Scientific and Technical Library, director of development at the International Association of Users and Developers of Electronic Libraries and New Information Technologies; Emelyanov A.E., Head of the Educational and Methodological Department at AVD-Kazakhstan LLP; Tokmakova V.V., Marketing Director at the International Association of Users and Developers of Electronic Libraries and New Information Technologies , Vice-President of the National Library Association ‘Libraries of the Future’; and Ushakova O.B., Deputy Director General of the Russian State Public Scientific and Technical Library for Library Work, on the following topics:
— The reader's personal account as an element of personalisation of library and information services;
— Open access and open archives;
— The Russian State Public Scientific and Technical Library as an access point to scientific and technical information (an example of an industry solution);
— Single point of access to library resources, seamless authorisation, cross-access, integration with external information systems;
— Presentation of the experience of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy Library;
— Software solutions for the integration of the IRBIS64 library information system and the AVN system;
— Building distributed information systems for university libraries: discussion and presentation of a corporate project using the example of medical libraries at universities in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The results of the participation of the Scientific Library of the Moscow Higher School of Management in this seminar were:
— familiarisation with the work of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy Library;
— acquisition of a reader's ticket to the Russian State Scientific and Technical Library and access to its resources;
— discussion of a corporate project using the example of medical libraries at universities in the Kyrgyz Republic.
